Worrell, advocates, and FL voters will rally attendees around the current threat to our democracy, as DeSantis & extreme lawmakers undermine the will of Floridians.
TALLAHASSEE – On Wednesday, December 6, Equal Ground, the preeminent Black-led, non-partisan, non-profit working to expand Black political power in Florida, and the Formerly Incarcerated & Convicted People and Families Movement (FICPFM), a national network of over 50 civil and human rights organization that are led by directly impacted people , will join former State Attorney Monique Worrell and dozens of Florida voters and advocates outside of the Florida Supreme Court.
Immediately following oral arguments before the Court in Monique Worrell v. Ron D. DeSantis, Worrell will stand with leaders, advocates, and Orange County voters who elected her as they rally for our democracy. Wednesday's arguments will address Governor DeSantis unconstitutionally removing Worrell from office, directly subverting the will of Orange and Osceola County voters who overwhelmingly elected Worrell.
DeSantis and extremist lawmakers have endlessly fought to undermine the foundation of our democracy, directly attacking the very systems and structures that allow all Floridians to access the ballot box and make their voices heard.
For the past year, DeSantis has fought to bend all facets of Florida law to attack Black, Brown, LGBTQ+, and minority Floridians. And now, DeSantis is removing duly-elected leaders, showing all Floridians that even when they exercise their democratic rights, he will use his unchecked power to create an authoritarian state and silence those who oppose him.
