TALLAHASSEE – On Wednesday, March 29th, Equal Ground, which is the preeminent Black-led, non-partisan, non-profit organization working to expand Black political power in Florida, will ascend to Tallahassee for a Day of Action. They will be joined by community partners and Black Floridians from across the state for a press conference at the Capitol to advocate for voting rights and demand the rejection of anti-democratic, racist, and divisive legislation moving through the State Legislature.
Dozens of Black Floridians from across the state will gather to hear from Founder of Equal Ground Jasmine Burney-Clark, NAACP St. Petersburg Chapter President Esther Eugene, Florida Director of All Voting is Local Brad Ashwell, Florida Program Director of Poder Latinx Carolina Wassmer, and other leaders and community members as they speak out against DeSantis’ extremist agenda.
This press conference comes during Equal Ground’s Day of Action at the Capitol, where community leaders and voters will meet with lawmakers and attend committee hearings about key legislation. During these meetings, Day of Action attendees will demand their state legislators take action to push back against anti-democratic legislation and the long string of DeSantis’ “anti-woke” legislation that targets Florida’s communities of color, transgender youth, and immigrants, aims to restrict voting rights, and grants the governor unchecked power.
Press are encouraged to attend the day of action and press conference. Speakers and attendees will be available to speak to the media. There will also be a livestream link provided upon request.
