ORLANDO – On Wednesday, April 3rd, Equal Ground, which is the preeminent Black-led, non-partisan, non-profit group, working on building Black political power in Florida, is teaming up with Florida elected officials and community partners across the state to hold a massive get out the vote rally with hundreds of Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) sorors, as AKA hosts their 71st South Atlantic Regional Conference in Orlando.

At the event, Equal Ground Board Member and AKA Soror Jasmine Burney-Clark will be joined by City of Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, Duly-Elected State Attorney Monique Worrell, Commissioner Bakari Burns, State Senator Rosalind Osgood, State Representative Ashley Gantt, and State Representative LaVon Bracy Davis to rally attendees around voter education, registration, and mobilization and push back on lawmakers’ continued assault on communities of color, silencing Black Floridians and passing extreme voter suppression legislation.

Alongside community partners, including Equal Ground, the League of Women of Voters of Orange County, The Paul Perkins Bar Association, Faith in Florida, and The Central Florida NAACP, the rally will follow a major voter mobilization effort with door-to-door canvassing, phonebanking, and educating voters in the Washington Shores and Richmond Heights communities about the importance of voting, primary/general election dates, and how to update vote-by-mail ballots.

As Florida has emerged as the epicenter of fascist ideologies, spearheading the nationwide erasure of Black history, culture, diversity, equality, and inclusion, Equal Ground and community partners, with the support of AKA sorors, are joining together to protect and advance the rights and voices of Black Floridians in the face of ceaseless attacks from extremist lawmakers.
