PRESSER on TUES: Equal Ground & Leading FL Advocates to Respond to Gov. DeSantis’ State of the State, Outline Legislative Priorities

Following DeSantis’ State of the State, key Florida advocates will come together to react while laying out their top priorities on day one of the FL legislative session

TALLAHASSEE – On Tuesday, March 4th, Equal Ground – the preeminent Black-led, non-partisan, non-profit working to build Black political power in Florida – and other leading Florida advocacy organizations will hold a media roundtable to respond to Governor DeSantis's State of the State address and outline their top legislative priorities.

After Governor DeSantis and Florida lawmakers have already used special legislative sessions for performative politics – pushing legislation that does nothing to address Floridians' real concerns – Florida advocates will use this moment to discuss their key legislative priorities and the critical work that must be done for Floridians.

On the first day of the Florida legislative session, and at a critical moment amid attacks on rights across the country – including current attempts from the Congress to suppress voters – Equal Ground and partners are coming together to push back on the false promises and rhetoric from Florida leaders and to demand lawmakers enact policies that support communities.

Tuesday’s roundtable will feature remarks from top Florida advocates and community leaders, including Genesis Robinson, Executive Director of Equal Ground, Abdelilah Skhir, Senior Strategist of the American Civil Liberties Union, Pamela Burch Fort, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Johnathan Webber, Policy Director of the Southern Poverty Law Center, Brad Ashwell, Florida State Director All Voting is Local Action, Amy Keith, Executive Director of Common Cause Florida, Moné Holder, Chief Advocacy & Political Officer Florida Rising, Andrew Spar, president of the Florida Education Association,  Debbie Chandler,  co-president of the League of Women Voters, and Natasha Sutherland, Deputy Director of Florida Watch.
