Official Statement: Newly Proposed Congressional Districts

The release of this congressional map on Fox & Friends by Ron DeSantis, and the makeup of the map itself, confirms what Floridians have known all along: this unprecedented mid-decade redistricting push is nothing more than a political power grab designed to curry favor with Donald Trump in direct violation of Florida’s Fair Districts Amendments.

The numbers make the intent clear. In a state where Republicans make up just 41% of registered voters, Democrats over 30%, and nearly 25% of voters have no party affiliation, this map is engineered to produce a 24–4 congressional split. That means one party could control nearly 86% of the seats in a state where no party holds a majority. That is not representation. That is manipulation.

Florida voters were clear when they passed the Fair Districts Amendments: maps must be drawn to reflect fairness, impartiality, and the will of the people, not the political ambitions of those in power. This proposal is a direct violation of both the letter and the spirit of those protections, and it undermines the trust Floridians have placed in their elected leaders.

The consequences of this kind of map are real. It dilutes the voices of millions of voters, particularly Black voters and other historically marginalized communities, reduces competition, and weakens accountability in our democracy.

Let me be clear: this will not go unchallenged.

I am proud to stand with hundreds of Floridians in Tallahassee as we make our voices heard and demand that our legislature keep their hands off our maps. We are calling on lawmakers to reject any attempt to redraw districts mid-decade and to uphold the Constitution they were elected to serve
