Here’s what you should know:

1. It’s already illegal for non-citizens to cast a ballot in federal elections, and states have secure systems in place to prevent noncitizens from voting. Those who violate the law already face severe penalties. 

2. Election officials already use extensive state and federal data to verify an individual’s eligibility to cast a ballot and Americans must already provide either the last four digits of their social security number or driver’s license number when registering to vote to enable officials to verify their identity and eligibility.

3. There is no proof anywhere of widespread voter fraud in this country, and in fact, Trump’s own Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity was disbanded because it wasn’t able to find any.

4. The SAVE Act and its new iterations are just the latest example of a string of schemes to make voting more difficult for citizens, while hiding behind a thin veil of disinformation and false claims of wide-spread voter fraud.

5. State lawmakers are introducing a copycat version of the Federal SAVE Act that would require documentary proof of citizenship (DPOC) to register to vote, even though there’s no widespread evidence of noncitizen voting.

Contact the U.S. Senate and stop them from passing the save act.
