Black-Led FL Voting Rights Org Equal Ground Launches Statewide Tour to Empower Floridians to Defend Their Representation After Unlawful Redistricting Power Grab

Equal Ground is equipping Floridians with the tools and knowledge to fight back against lawmakers' attacks on fair representation and voting rights

FLORIDA — Equal Ground – the preeminent Black-led, non-partisan, non-profit working to build Black political power in Florida – is launching the 'On The Ground' statewide legislative debrief tour in partnership with Florida legislators and community leaders to inform, engage, and prepare Florida's communities for what lies ahead in the fight to defend their representation and voting rights.

The tour comes on the heels of a major unlawful overreach by DeSantis and lawmakers who wasted yet another legislative session, failed to fulfill their basic responsibility, and then, at the beck and call of President Trump, forced a special session to ram through rigged congressional maps that strip millions of Floridians of their fair representation. Once again, Floridians are left to pay the price for lawmakers' incompetence and partisan agenda while their concerns go ignored.

“This session, Florida lawmakers chose politics over people. The passage of rigged congressional maps is a direct slap in the face to millions of Floridians who were counting on their elected leaders to follow the law and uphold the Constitution,” said Equal Ground Executive Director Genesis Robinson. “We are ensuring Floridians understand that the battle is far from over and the state's manipulation of democracy will not go unchecked.”

During tour stops across the state, Equal Ground, alongside community leaders and elected officials, will break down what happened during the legislative session and the unlawful special session that followed – including important updates related to district lines and redistricting

– translate complex policy decisions into clear and accessible information, and discuss the impact on Black communities and Florida's historically underrepresented voices. Leaders will also inform community members about attacks on education, criminal justice, and economic opportunity – and empower them to stay civically engaged and prepared for the 2026 election cycle.

"Floridians are not being represented or advocated for by those in power in our state legislature, and we will do everything in our power to educate voters, ensure they can make their voices heard heading into the midterms, and show their dismay with this egregious failure at the ballot box," continued Robinson.

The statewide tour will kick off in Seminole County on Monday, May 4th, and stop in several counties over the next two months. Additional partnerships with elected leaders and community organizations will be announced.
