Equal Ground Reacts to End of Legislative Session: “One of the longest, least productive, and most chaotic sessions in Florida’s history.”
FLORIDA – Genesis Robinson, Executive Director of Equal Ground – the preeminent Black-led, non-partisan, non-profit working to build Black political power in Florida – released the following statement reacting to the end of the legislative session:
“105 days after the Regular Legislative Session was originally scheduled to end, the Florida Legislature finally completed its one constitutionally-required job: passing a budget.
With nearly 2,000 bills filed and only 257 passed, this was one of the longest, least productive, and most chaotic sessions in Florida’s history. Instead of addressing rising housing costs, economic uncertainty, and critical public needs, lawmakers prioritized culture wars and partisan games, once again pushing forward legislation to silence Floridians and diminish their collective power.
The State Legislature’s inability to root out dysfunction and deliver for the people remains deeply troubling. As we continue our legislative debrief tour across the state, we will not stop educating Floridians until all communities understand the utter failure of our lawmakers to deliver on issues that actually matter, instead favoring attacks to democracy and corporate interests.”
