The Florida Legislature’s decision to postpone the special session on mid-decade redistricting is yet another example of a process driven by politics, not the people. Lawmakers need to read the room and abandon this reckless effort altogether. This proposal threatens to violate our state constitution, undermine the voting rights of Floridians, and create unnecessary chaos in the administration of critical elections just months away.
Floridians are not asking for delay, they are demanding that this misguided plan be scrapped entirely.
This postponement also exposes deeper dysfunction within legislative leadership. It is a clear sign of internal infighting, even as leaders within their own party openly admit that this effort is about responding to actions in other states like Virginia and preserving partisan power in Congress. That is not only inappropriate, it directly contradicts the intent of Florida’s Fair District Amendments constitution, which were passed by voters to prevent exactly this kind of political manipulation.
Our democracy should not be treated as a political chess piece. Florida voters deserve transparency, fairness, and leadership that puts people over power.
