Official Statement: DeSantis Calls for Special Session on Redistricting

Today’s announcement by the Governor calling a special session to take up redistricting is reckless and irresponsible, just like the mid-decade redistricting effort itself. Instead of respecting long-standing precedent and the will of Florida voters, the Gov continues to impose on the independence and authority of the Legislature by calling for a special session, even though the regular legislative session begins next week and is scheduled to run until March 13th. Ample time to take care of the real issues and business of our state.

Enough with the political grandstanding. It’s time to stop manipulating our democracy and start delivering for the people of Florida instead of wasting their tax dollars. Special sessions are costly and should only be called in dire circumstances when the Legislature has already ended regular session, not before it has even started.
