Official Statement on the Passing of Senator Geraldine Thompson

Equal Ground mourns the passing of State Senator Geraldine Thompson, a trailblazer and relentless advocate for justice.

A lifelong public servant, she dedicated her life to uplifting our community through her unwavering commitment to voting rights, Black history, and education. Senator Thompson was more than a legislator—she was a pillar of our community whose impact will be felt for generations to come. Many members of the Equal Ground team had the privilege of starting their political journeys under her guidance.

Our prayers are with her family, her constituents, her staff, colleagues, and all who were touched by her remarkable leadership. She was a friend to Equal Ground, and we are forever grateful for her partnership and dedication to justice.

Over the last two years, we were especially honored to work alongside Senator Thompson on the Florida Voting Rights Act—a bill that embodied two of her deepest passions: expanding democracy and preserving Black history.

Because of her service, our community is stronger. Because of her advocacy, our history is preserved. And because of her legacy, we will continue the fight for justice and equality in her honor.
