Field Manager 

 

Position Summary: The Field Manager is responsible for overseeing and coordinating community outreach, advocacy campaigns, and grassroots organizing efforts. Maintain and establish relationships with partners and volunteers. You will be responsible for building a robust grassroots organizing operation, engaging in coalition-building activities, coordinating with key stakeholders, and managing paid/volunteer outreach staff within your assigned region. The position will require travel within the state.

 

Field Manager Duties: 

  • Assist with the implementation of Equal Ground’s Field plan.

  • Develop and implement strategies for engaging with communities impacted by social justice and voting rights issues.

  • Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, activists, and partner organizations.

  • Organize events, workshops, and forums to raise awareness and foster dialogue around key issues.

  • Recruit, train, manage, and support a network of volunteers and paid grassroots activists.

  • Coordinate grassroots organizing efforts, including door-to-door outreach, phone banking, and community canvassing.

  • Identify opportunities for collaboration with other nonprofit organizations, advocacy groups, and stakeholders.

  • Represent the organization in coalition meetings, working groups, and joint initiatives.

  • Coordinate and attend partner meetings weekly to get better aligned. 

  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, campaign metrics, and volunteer engagement.

  • Analyze data to evaluate the effectiveness of outreach strategies and inform future planning.

  • Engage voters in person, via phone, and virtually to share election information and discuss the importance of voting in the election.

  • Inform Floridians about key election issues, candidates, and ballot measures. Ensure they understand the voting process, including mail-in ballots, early voting, and election day procedures.

  • Ensure all data is entered into the organization’s internal systems in a timely manner, whether collected in person or virtually.

  • Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, as well as the organization’s internal policies.

  • Other duties as outlined in the job description or as delegated by the supervisor. 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in community organizing, direct voter contact activities, legislative, public affairs, or policy‑oriented environments including issue or electoral campaigns, advocacy, or related experience.

  • Excellent relationship-building skills and strong knowledge of your local community.

  • Experience working and effectively developing leadership within historically marginalized communities- particularly Black communities. 

  • Self-motivation, professionalism, and a positive demeanor.

  • Excellent verbal & written skills, with the ability to craft compelling digital content.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Proficiency with Google Suite.

  • Willingness and availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.

  • Experience with NGP VAN / Votebuilder a plus.

  • Experience creating or utilizing virtual training materials 

  • Ability to perform tasks that may occasionally require lifting up to 25 lbs or standing for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Experience creating or utilizing train-the-trainer curriculum 

  • A strong commitment to Equal Ground Education/Action Fund ideals and issues

 

Location: This is not a remote position. It will involve a mix of in-person and virtual work. You may be required to travel throughout the state of Florida with minimal notice. The position requires in-person engagement, attending community events, and conducting door-to-door outreach. Additionally, you will be asked to engage virtually from home or a remote location via phone calls, text messaging, and video conferencing. Flexibility is required, as the role may require travel and work outside of traditional business hours.

Compensation: This position pays $50,000 annually with a healthcare and cell phone stipend. Reimbursement for work-related travel expenses will be provided. 

Expectations: 

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable mode of transportation and the ability to travel at times throughout the state of Florida

  • Must have access to a working smartphone with the ability to download relevant work applications

  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds

  • Extended periods of standing and walking throughout the workday.

Legislative Associate

 

Position Summary: Equal Ground seeks a dedicated and highly motivated Legislative Associate to manage and execute the organization’s legislative initiatives. During Florida’s Legislative session, the Legislative Associate will serve as the primary representative in Tallahassee, working closely with the leadership team, partners, and lawmakers to advance Equal Ground’s legislative priorities. This role requires a proactive individual with strong organizational, communication, and relationship-building skills who understands the legislative process. 

Legislative Associate Responsibilities:

  • Manage the organization's legislative work

  • Collaborate with the leadership team to identify and manage legislative initiatives and tracked bills.

  • Develop and implement strategies to support or oppose key legislation aligned with Equal Ground’s mission.

  • Monitor and analyze legislation, committee meetings, and policy developments relevant to Equal Ground’s focus areas.

  • Plan and execute Equal Ground Day at the Capitol. This includes but is not limited to securing venues/vendors, coordinating meetings with legislators and partners, and managing logistics.

  • Organize legislative debrief meetings and other related events to keep partners informed and engaged.

  • Create a legislative toolkit to be used as a community resource that includes, talking points for priority legislation, a legislative glossary, and archives of newsletters. 

  • Maintain a comprehensive legislative tracking system to monitor bill developments and create reports. 

  • Represent Equal Ground at committee meetings, public forums, and partner events in Tallahassee, our core counties, and virtually.

  • Provide written and oral public comments on key bills, advocating for Equal Ground’s positions.

  • Draft statements and press releases in response to legislative developments.

  • Write weekly and monthly newsletters to update supporters about key legislative issues and activities.

  • Prepare briefing materials and reports for leadership and stakeholders.

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with legislators, legislative staff, and coalition partners.

  • Assist with internal training sessions and knowledge-sharing to enhance the team’s understanding of legislative processes.

  • Attend weekly Equal Ground Staff meetings and provide an update on Legislative activities

  • Any other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in legislative work, advocacy, or a related role.

  • Strong understanding of Florida’s legislative process and key policy areas.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to pivot and adjust to changes without much advance notice.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

  • Availability to work in Tallahassee during legislative sessions and travel as needed.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable mode of transportation, and the ability to travel at times throughout the state of Florida

  • Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 25 pounds

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience organizing large-scale events and coordinating logistics.

  • Familiarity with issues impacting Black communities and underrepresented groups in Florida.

  • Proficiency in using legislative tracking systems like LobbyTools and legislative website
